Collier County - Public Relations & Communications Manager (Tourism) 

Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this position is to promote Collier County, Florida as a tourism destination to domestic and International travel journalists for leisure, group meetings, sports, culinary, eco and wellness travel. Target markets include trade media, periodicals and other news media outlets. Researches, writes and distributes press releases, develops media contacts and responds to inquiries for information from the news media. Plans and escorts groups of travel journalists to inspect hotels, attractions and sports and shopping venues in Collier County Florida.

Essential Functions
Assists the Division Director of Tourism in conceiving, developing, implementing and communicating an overall communications strategy for attracting visitors to Collier County. Develops and implements an annual Public Relations plan and budget which will support the overall strategy for tourism in the County. Manages travel schedules and itineraries for visiting journalists.

Creates and maintains a database of news media contacts for distribution of press releases. Develops business relationships with news media contacts to facilitate their awareness of Collier County as a travel destination. Edits copy for promotional items for tone and brand consistency and attends trade shows, conferences, organized media events and seminars in order to learn best practices and grow a contact list of travel writers and news media.

Contacts travel writers and new media to visit the County to experience the tourism offerings first-hand to enhance their stories/articles on those tourism activities. Pitches and vets free-lance writers and blogger/influencers with story ideas on the tourism offerings in the County.

Writes monthly reports on activities and accomplishments and makes monthly presentations to Tourist Development Council (TDC). Maintains records of tourism publicity generated and tracks tourism trends. Maintains a database of information on county tourism offerings to support press releases and other information provided to various media outlets.

Maintains the annual public relations budget; monitors and controls expenditures; recommends purchases to meet operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field; supplemented by a minimum of five years of experience performing communications and public relations work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be skilled in creative writing and oral communications. Travel required. Fingerprinting required. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Daytona Beach Area Group Sales Manager

Job Title: Group Sales Manager (Religious, Corporate, National Association markets)
Department: Group Sales
Reports to: Director of Group Sales
Status: Exempt

Job Description:

Develop group sales leads and bookings for market segments including religious, corporate and national associations. Meet measured sales goals and encourage group bookings for meetings hotels and convention facilities.

Areas of Primary Responsibility and Focus:

  • Develop and maintain active prospects and issue leads specific to market segments that have the greatest potential
  • Maintain membership and participate in organizations related to assigned market segments
  • Cooperatively work with all department staff and assigned contractors to ensure the delivery and implementation of a comprehensive sales and marketing strategy that improves meetings and convention leads or bookings
  • Regularly participate in trade shows, sales missions, and regional sales calls for assigned markets and provide leads and follow up with information to area partners
  • Arrange and conduct area site inspections and tours
  • Achieve sales goals for area of work as established by the Director of Group Sales
  • Submit a weekly activity report detailing work assignments, goals and completed tasks
  • Document work within Simpleview lead generation software program
  • Participate in Meetings and Conventions Advisory Committee meetings
  • Maintain a positive relationship with area industry representatives and other tourism related businesses
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience preferred, with proven sales results in Faith-Based, Corporate, and National Associations markets
  • Convention & Visitors Bureau experience preferred
  • Planner background a plus
  • Holds current memberships/accreditations in key industry organizations
  • Experience in convention services preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, and achieve results
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively on all organizational levels and assist in all areas/markets when needed
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment with exceptional attention to detail
  • Positive, professional, "can do" attitude that enhances the organization’s corporate culture
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Office located at 126 E. Orange Ave, Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida
  • Some weekends and evening hours required
  • Frequently work at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to drive own vehicle as required to perform essential job functions
  • Ability to travel out of town, including weekends

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
  • Benefit package is available on the first of the month following ninety (90) days of continuous full-time employment
